Z Baen's Baru sem překopíruji informace, které David Weber před několika dny prohlásil na jedné besedě. Týkají se všech jeho sérií.
- 163X. DW is under contract for 3 more books in this universe. He'd like to get Eddie down to the Carribean and the eastern US seaboard, throwing out the French. No real timetable as to when those books might get written, however.
- Currently writing Torch for Freedom with EF. This book is still committed for a 2009 release, in order to pave the way for MoH in early 2010. He sounded very adamant that the release schedule would be made, as he doesn't want the MoH script gathering dust at Baen any longer than it has to.
- Talked about the economics of the various series when asked what other lines he'd like to advance, so we'd have an appreciation of the difficulty. Toni Wiezkopf (I'm sure I killed the spelling) knows he really enjoys writing in the Swords universe, 163x, etc., but the publishers takes a roughly $1.5MM hit to revenue when he writes anything other than a HH or Safehold novel (and yes, we get from this that Safehold is selling really well.) He emphasized that his other series are certainly profitable, and match up will with most other novels in terms of sales, but HH & Safehold are guaranteed blockbusters. This forces the slant we see in HH/SH novels vs. everything else. Talked about the intertwined relationship between Baen and Tor.
- After TfF and the resulting revisions to MoH (the MoH manuscripts he's auctioning, for example, include characters such as 'The Physicist' because Eric hasn't given them a name in TfF yet), he's going to produce 2 more books for Tor. At some point he's going to jump the story to Caleb and Sharleyn's children, but he's currently debating with himself on when. He's come to really like the current character set and is loath to leave them. He's going to bring Safehold to a relatively static split between Orthodox and Charisian churches, then jump forward a generation for the next set of upheavals.
- Treecats will see greater use as biological sniffers around certain VIPs (not adoptees) to counter Mesa. An entire treecat clan will be wiped out due to *tum te tum*. (Note... DW actually says this term, and in a very musical and utterly maliciously gleeful way.)
- Foraker will be adopted.
- He's interested in writing a sequel and a prequel to Path of the Fury. The prequel will follow Ferhat Belkesson (sp? don't have the book handy) and how he found himself to be an O branch inspector.
- Got asked who Brandark's god is. I'll leave the response to your imagination.
- Three movies have been optioned in the HH universe, with financing mostly lined up (but with many more contractual cut-outs that can kill or delay it at any time.) First movie centered on Honor of the Queen, with flashbacks to Basilisk Station to explain current relationships.
- Wants to write more sequals and a prequal to Mutineer's Moon. Prequal will cronical the fight between the loyalists and rebels, centering on Jiltanith (lots of War of the Roses settings.)
- Not sure when the Multiverse series will continue. Noted he 'had no business starting that one', as there are so many other story arcs ongoing.
- Currently has 30 books total under contract
- BSG fan. Not much other TV.
- Last sentence of Mission of Honor: 'This time, Pritchart took it.' He also read the first sentence, but it wasn't sufficiently memorable to stick with me.
